New Patients

If you're a new patient to our clinic, we first want to say welcome, and thank you for your trust in us and for the opportunity to work with you!  There are a few things you might be wondering before you get started at our clinic.  Below we've posted some helpful insights that may answer some of your preliminary questions.  Remember, if you don't find what you're looking for on our website, call us, and we'll answer any further questions you might have.  And, if you're still having trouble deciding or are unsure, check out these real testimonials from actual patients.

How Long Will the First Appointment Take?

Typically, the first appointment takes between 45-60 minutes for your initial consultation, history, and first treatment, regardless of which treatment we are performing on you.  Appointments thereafter will take about 15 minutes if you are being seen for chiropractic only, and about 30 minutes if you are being seen for acupuncture only.  If you are doing both chiropractic and acupuncture, you can expect to be in the clinic for 45-60 minutes.

Will My Insurance Cover My Visits?
For chiropractic, probably, yes.  For acupuncture, probably, no--although some plans are beginning to cover acupuncture.  We are providers for most major insurance companies, however, this alone does not guarantee any type of chiropractic or acupuncture coverage.  You are responsible for checking with your specific plan regarding your specific coverage.  For example, some plans require patients to pay co-pays, while others require that a certain deductible be met before insurance starts paying.  Since all plans are different, we highly encourage you to call your insurance provider and ask specifically if chiropractic and acupuncture treatment is a covered service.

I'm Looking for an In-Network Provider...Are You In-Network?

Yes, more than likely.  Dr. Kunz is a provider for these local and national plans:

Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Dakotacare, Sanford, Avera, Coventry, Cigna, Aetna, Sioux Falls School Distirct, Sioux Falls City (all city employees), Medicare B, Medicaid, United, Medica, UMR, and a host of smaller companies.  If you have any questions about whether or not Dr. Kunz is a provider for your insurance carrier, please call us and we'll be happy to help!

I Don't Have Insurance--Is Treatment Expensive?

We offer VERY affordable pricing for everyone, even if you don't have insurance.  In fact, sometimes not having insurance is actually cheaper because of the high co-pays and deductibles you'll see with some insurance plans.  While it's impossible to say exactly how much your first treatment will be, almost every new "cash plan" patient is surprised to learn it isn't as much as they initially thought it would be.  Because there is some variability in pricing dependent on services, complexity, etc, we don't post our prices online, BUT, we would be more than happy to discuss our pricing in a one on one phone conversation with you.  Just give us a call, and we'll give you the scoop.

If I Start Chiropractic Care, Will I Have To Keep Coming Back?
Absolutely not.  While it's true that some clinics require long treatment plans, we mostly don't require that of our patients.  It is important to keep in mind though, that if your condition didn't appear over night, it might not go away over night either.  In other words, multiple treatments may be needed to reach effective and lasting treatment outcomes, though you'll never be required to come back at any time.  Our patients have a lot of freedom to come and go as they please.

Think of your treatment as a flight of stairs.  The first treatment is taking the first step--you've gained a little, now we'll help you decide where to go from there.  Sometimes the flight is 20 stairs high, but other times, it's only 2.  Each patient and condition is different, but the great thing is, an ailment that may have been in the works for many years can many times start to significantly improve within just a few visits.  We NEVER put you into a canned treatment plan.  The bottom line is, you need to be comfortable with both the type and the frequency of care given.

What Type of Chiropractic Techniques Do You Use?

Dr. Kunz is a diversified practitioner.  That means, he'll use a variety of different techniques during any one treatment.  Typically, he uses a combination of manual adjusting, drop piece, flexion distraction, and activator techniques.  He also uses a lot of soft tissue therapy including trigger point therapy, myofascial release, and active release technique (ART).  Additionally, he frequently uses kinesio tape for athletic injuries.  It is important to remember also, that if you don't like a certain type of treatment technique (for example, the activator), let us know.  As the old saying goes, "there's more than one way to skin a cat" and we will tailor our treatment to fit your preferences.

Do You Treat Babies and Children?

Absolutely!  Babies and children are some of the most fun and rewarding patients to treat, because they respond so well to chiropractic care, and usually within a very small amount of time.

I'm Nervous About My First Visit--Is It Safe?

It's OK to be nervous and to question your first treatment, but without question,  chiropractic and acupuncture are extremely safe and effective treatments.  Dr. Kunz has well over 15,000 patient encounters (treatments), so he is experienced in all types of conditions, in all levels of severity.  He's helped even the most nervous patients through their first treatments.  The most common reflection that nervous, first time patients have after their first treatment is "that wasn't nearly as bad as I thought."  If you are a first time patient to chiropractic or acupuncture, we would love the honor of having you experience it for the first time in our clinic.  We promise to walk you through it--no matter how long it takes--so you'll have a positive experience and discover just how amazing these treatments can be!
